Table Talk – “Day Off” or “Off Day”…

Food Processor - 2

Today was a nice sunny day here in Kentucky.  The sun was out all day, the birds were singing…and I looked out my window and saw my first hummingbird at one of my feeders.  That’s the moment I should have grabbed my cup of coffee and headed for the deck but no…not me.  As usual, I was feeling a little overwhelmed at the thought of trying to reach my goals for the day, chores, baking, cooking, taking pictures, editing, posting….and I won’t even mention my new Canon Rebel 5 camera that I have yet to figure out.  I’m sure you’ve already become fully aware of that when you view my food photos.

Well anyhow, I was supposed to spend the weekend getting to know my camera, but it seemed like everything else kept getting in the way.  After all, if I don’t keep editing and posting recipes as I make them, I will get so far behind that I’ll never come up for air.  Saturday passed me by, and I thought Sunday was going to be the day for learning my camera.  I just needed to do one thing in the kitchen.  It wouldn’t take long, and I needed to use my blender.

I quickly opened the doors under my cook top to retrieve my blender.  I grabbed the base of the blender, and as I was picking it up, the glass pitcher suddenly tumbled over and off the base and landed on my floor in front of me.  I was devastated!  Oh no, I’ve used my trusty little blender for seventeen years.  It was a wedding gift, almost seventeen years ago.  Oh no…another thought just entered my mind.  My wedding anniversary is in three days, and once again I have forgotten all about it.  Don is going to hate me again when he hands me his card with a paragraph written inside and I don’t hand him one in return.  Maybe this was supposed to be my sign, to not forget our anniversary.

I collected myself for a moment and then decided to do the one thing I had been dreading to do for four long years…drag out the new Kitchen Aid food processor that Don had given me for Christmas over four years ago.  Okay, if I haven’t mentioned it before, I’m saying it now.  I am terrible at figuring out gadgets, TV remotes, fancy cameras…well you get it…

I placed the food processor on my countertop and looked at it.  How hard could this thing be?  I started trying to disassemble it, piece by piece.  After all, I needed to wash all of the parts that had been stored away forever.  Okay then….four parts plus a blade to wash each and every time I use the thing…Nice!  And then there’s the issue of where to put it.  I’m not sitting it on my counter to take up space.  I already have a huge mixer sitting on my counter, and I don’t want something else in my way.  I’m also not putting it away and dragging it back out each time I want to use it either.

I suddenly decided that the entire situation was stressing me out.  I would just put the pieces back together, if I could just remember how they were suppose to go back together… and put it back away.

For years I’ve depended on my trusty little blender…

IMG_5011And my wonderful little mini food processor that is so….easy to use…Every one should have one of these…

Well anyhow, I started collecting the pieces up and realized that the blade should probably go in first, so…

I quickly picked up that stupid blade and guess what…it really is sharp!!!  Duh Cindy!!!

About that time, Don walked in the door from walking Coco and Cosmo and saw that I was ready to have a melt down in the kitchen and asked me what had happened.  After I explained, he promptly responded with “well… I guess you’ll finally have to use your new food processor that I gave you”.  NOT a good reply to a person on the verge of a meltdown.  A few moments later, Don suggested that I retreat to the couch with my computer and he left to go shopping and returned in a couple of hours…

Yay, my day just finally got better…

Before, I could say anything, he led me to the kitchen where he gave me an elementary tutorial on my new dangerous appliance…

The first thing he did was open the lid and make me read the above “Caution” statement…why in the world would they put such a caution statement in the box.  Do they think we are all stupid!  I mean who would cut their finger or hand on something that they know is very sharp…uh never mind…

Then he opened the box and placed the blender on the counter.  He said it even had suction on the bottom to keep it in place for clumsy people…

Then he showed me how to plug it in…Duh!!!! I can do that much…

Food Processor - 6

Next he showed me how to properly take the lid on and off…double Duh!!

Then lastly…he made me stare down inside at those wicked looking blades…OMG!  Yes…I promise to be careful!!!  I know he didn’t mean it when he called me a little dizzy…

Then after all of that…he said “Happy Mother’s Day and Anniversary Honey”.  I guess my day wasn’t so bad after all.

I hope you had a good “Day Off” and not an “Off Day”…

I gotta go now….have to go find an anniversary card before I forget!
