Table Talk – Saying Goodbye!

Saying goodbye to February and my baby Coco…

February has sure been crazy this year and I for one am glad it’s about over.  The weather has been soooo crazy… snow, 70 degree weather, major rain and flooding.  And if that hasn’t been enough, I lost my baby Coco this month from Congestive Heart Failure.  I am so grateful that I got to be his mommy for over 10 years.  He was truly a blessing to me.

Left behind…

I didn’t realize how much animals grieve, but Coco’s little brother Cosmo grieved for several days after we had to say our goodbyes.  I’ve spent many hours holding and babying him this month, but I still managed to find time to play in the kitchen.

Speaking of playing in the kitchen, I realized this month that My Country Table passed the 2 year mark in January.  That led me to start thinking of all the struggles I’ve had to overcome over the past 2 years in order to make MCT happen.  The main struggle… photography!!

As you know, my early pictures weren’t anything to brag about.  When I started my blog, I took pictures with my I-phone and I was totally clueless about food props, food staging, lighting and photography in general.  I invested in a nice Canon Rebel 5 camera, and didn’t know the first thing about using it.  I was literally afraid to touch it.  My son-n-law, Brad, finally forced me to put down the I-phone and pick up the camera.  Two years later, I still have SO much to learn about photography.  However, after looking back on my earlier pictures, CRINGE, I realize that I have improved some.

Look at this embarrassing picture taken with my I-Phone 2 years ago of a Cherry Pie… DOUBLE CRINGE…  There’s  only twenty things wrong with this terrible picture.

Now look at the picture below taken just a few weeks ago with my Canon Rebel 5 camera and 2 years of food photography practice.  Same cherry pie…  Do you think I’ve improved?  Maybe 2 years from now, I’ll think this one looks terrible and I’ll remake it again.  Lol…

As I said when I first started this food blog, I love to create my own recipes and make other recipes that I run across.  However, there are many times when I’m not happy with the end results of a recipe.  Therefore, there is no way I will post such recipes.  You have my promise!

Recipe Reject…

I usually don’t post pictures of recipes that don’t meet my approval, but I’ve had more than one of them this month.  The picture above is a plate of what was supposed to be Neapolitan Cupcakes.  The frosting turned out great, but the cupcakes were dry and I wasn’t the least bit impressed with my decorating skills either.

I’m heading back to the kitchen now, with Easter & Spring thoughts going through my head.  Hmm… wonder what I’ll come up with.

Wishing you a great month of March!!

Cindy
